ho's Who 1935 -1955
This is a collection of characters and strips listed alphabetically who appeared in at least 5 issues of comics (Which was the minimum from the original DC comics) from DC, Fawcett, Quality, and Fox's Blue Beetle and were omitted from the original Who's Who in the DC Universe. There are exceptions to the number of issue requirements for main characters and for villains as I tried to list any and all
recurring foes but I might have missed a few so feel free to add to this list.

Abdul the Arab: Abdul is the son of Arab chieftain Ali Bey he has a huge body guard named Hassan. Abdul has a niece named Fatawa Nicknamed Pooch. Their lands are British controlled Iraq. Both Hassan and Abdul are pilots and parachutists. In October of 1940 Abdul's old foe Ahmed the Bedouin kills Abdul's father, Ali Bey, Abdul kills Ahmed as he becomes chieftain of his tribe. Ace of Space: Ace Egan is a young millionaire sportsman and aviator who greets the alien pilot of a space ship. The alien gives in a power belt that doubles Ace's size to twelve feet, give his the ability to leap quarter of a mile. The alien warn Ace of a coming alien invasion from space that he defeats as the belt gives him knowledge on how to fly the craft first appearance. The spacecraft can become invisible. He has a butler named Jennings. Ace Egan is enlisted as a lieutenant in the US Army Air Corp as he is a pilot in early 1941. First Appearance: Feature Comics Vol 1 #38 November 1940
Ace, The Bat Hound: Ace, the Bat Hound was found nearly drowned by Batman. His owner was found to be John Wilker an expert engraver kidnapped. Robin creates a cowl for Bat Hound as the dog helps Batman catch his master's assailants as well as a couple of other cases before be returned to John Wilkers in his first appearance. The Acrobat: The Acrobat is a circus acrobat named Green who becomes homicidal maniac under a full moon with enhanced strength and is for of Captain Marvel Jr. First Appearance: Captain Marvel Jr Vol 1 #41 August 1946
Admiral Fujara's Suicide Fleet: Admiral Fujara's Suicide Fleet was the last vestiges of the Japanese Navy that went into hiding waiting to strike unprotected American assets. It was finally sunk after several months by a PT squadron. (See PT Boat) First Appearance: Military Comic Vol 1 #40 June 1945
Agent Axis: Agent Axis is a female German agent who is an expert in disguise and an arch enemy of the Boys Commandos during WWII. First Appearance: Boy Commandos Vol 1 #1 December 1941
Angle Man I: Angle Man was the criminal “Angles” Andrews and a for of Wonder Woman I. First Appearance: Wonder Woman Vol 1 #62 November 1953
Arizona Raines: Arizona Raines is a cowboy roaming the west with his nephew Spurs. His horse's name is Thunder. First Appearanc:Crack Western Vol 1 #63 November 1949
Armstrong of the Army: Lieutenant Armstrong in US Army Intelligence. First Appearance: Star Spangled Comics Vol 1 #1 October 1941
Astra, Girl of the Future: Astra, the Girl of the Future is and ace reporting Newscaster for Transvideo News base out of 22nd century New Futura. First Appearance: Sensation Comics Vol 1 #99 September 1950
Atom Blake: Atom Blake was a scientific genius, who thanks to his parent's experiments possessed all sorts of fantastic abilities. He was raised by his Aunt Nora and Uncle Joe, but soon realized he was not a normal child. He decides to ask his Uncle Joe and found out that that his "Uncle" Joe was best friends with Atom's father Stuart Blake.
Mr. Blake left a coded message for his son explaining how he and Atom's mother were scientists. They had created a metal bonded with all the known elements which could create energy. However, exposure to the energy killed an ape used for experiments. The Blake's realized that someone must be treated slowly over time to the rays of the metal and started to expose their son to the rays. The message ends and provides no details of the fates of Atom's parents or the source of their metal.
His parents also left him a magical ring makes wishes come true. Atom Blake decides to use his powers to fight crime with the assistance of his friends Janey Smart and Homer "Dusty" Davis.
In the summer 1941 Atom creates a twin to live his life as a normal boy while he goes looking in outer space for his parents. Only Homer knows of this. He free a race of insects forced in to slavery by a race of lizards. First Appearance: Wow Comics Vol 1 #1 December 1940
Adventures of Rusty and His Pals: Rusty and his pals, Tubby and Specs, are about ten years old when they build a raft and sail it out into the ocean. A storm comes up and they are rescued by a faux pirate ship crewed by actors headed to England unaware that the ship also carrying opium. Among the ship's crew is Steve Carter who befriends the boys as they get in and out of scrapes before getting getting to England. There Steve leaves the boys but they meet Angus McHeather during another adventure before going home. First Appearance: New Adventure Comics Vol 1 #26 May 1938

Alfred Beagle: Alfred Beagle is the son of the Wayne family's retired butler, Jarvis Beagle who travles to America to become Bruce Wayne's Butler. Anchors Aweigh: Lieutenant Commander Don Kerry and Lieutenant “Red” Murphy are
the pilot and gunner of a battleship's flight bi-plane. Don and Red are ordered to go to the consulate and escape a murder attempt by El Diablo's men. Afterwards that transfer to naval intelligence and have a series of assignments. First Appearance: New Adventure Comics Vol 1 #26 July 1938
Aquaman I: Aquaman I is Arthur curry, the son of a famed underwater explorer/archaeologist. His father discover the ruins of an Atlantean city and was able to decipher their writing and a formula that gave his son his powers. Aquaman has a weakness towards heat is exposed but has no time limitation in staying out of water. By 1947 Aquaman begins to display telepathic communication with all marine related fauna and by the end of the year displays the ability to control aquatic fauna. He has a degree of super strength as he can punch a hole in a submarine. He cannot withstand the pressure of the deepest part of the ocean. In 1949 the pressure caused. Aquaman to lose consciousness and an inability breathe air for a time. By 1954 Aquaman has various underwater caves he uses as bases through out the world's oceans. B Balbo, the Boy Magician: In late 1942 El Carim takes up a bet not to use magic for 24hours. In that time he is framed for murder and goes to his old friend, the stage Magician known as the Great Valdini and his son Balbo, the Boy Magician who has his first appearance in El Carim's last appearance. The Great Valini is murdered in his next appearance. Balbo catches his father's killer as the lad resolves to continue a life on stage to provide for himself and his younger Brother Freddie. John Smith, his black assistant on stage becomes their legal guardian by his father's will as Balbo's mother had died previously and they have no other family. Barry O'Neill: Barry O'Neill is a rich American adventurer who come to France at the summons of French Police Inspector Le Grande to help find his governments battle the evil Chinese villain Fang Gow. Bat-Men of All Nations:;The Batmen of All Nations first came together when Bat-Man and Robin ask the Musketeer, the Legionary, Gaucho, The Ranger, the Knight, and Squire to come to America to exchange techniques and share information, Since the invites all patterned themselves after the Batman they decided to be called the Batmen of All Nations. Betty Bates. Lady at Law: Betty is a defense attorney who clears her client of murder and catches the real killer in her first appearance. She is an excellent detective, fair hand to hand opponent, a crack shot and a pilot. She is elected district attorney in 1942. First Appearance: Hit Comics Vol 1 #4 October 1940
Biff Bronson: Biff Bronson and his pal Dan Druff are already a well known adventurers as he captures a wanted felon in first appearance. Biff and Dan are college graduates. Biff uses his share of the reward to send his ailing mother out west, his late father's name was Jack. Biff is an old friend of Socko Strong. Biff has some expertise in the art of disguise. Big Brother: Big Brother is Big Feller. His little brother Mitie is prone to get into troublesome and dangerous situations which Big had to extract him. They are orphans and Big is raising his little brother. They flee their home when Big has a run in with the mob and travel across the country continually running into criminals as they try to find a place to stay. Billie Gunn: Billie Gunn was an old man steep in knowledge of of the legends old west and its lore. He dressed as cowboy but had never been west of the Mississippi River until he became the first sometime sidekick of the Vigilante First Appearance: Action Comics Vol 1 #43 December 1941

Black Roger: Black Roger is the young English lawyer Roger Randolph who was shanghaied to the Colonies at the behest of an English Lord Willbar who was losing in court multiple times to Randolph and was bested in sword play as well. A young client of Randolph named Barty Bewick is taken with the lawyer. Their ship is attacked by Muslim Corsairs in route and Roger frees the galley slaves who in turn defeat the pirates. Rogers sails back to England and settles his score with Lord Willbar as the masked Black Roger and keeps him from gouging his people before sailing off to fight the Barbary pirates. He does wear a Monocle to cover his missing left eye. After several solo mission he would be joined Batu, a young knife wielding East Indian servant and friend who knows a few magic tricks. The Blood Pearls is a complete serial about Baslyn, a crooked American man living in the Philippines. He is covetous of a set of pearls and Rubies called the Blood Pearls. He kidnaps a woman because that is the price the owner demands for them. The owner is killed and the girl flees with a young man while Baslyn takes the Blood Pearls. He kills the girls father and flees to the United States. A;ways he sees an oriental man following him. He is killed when he tries to sell the Blood Pearls he is killed by the brother on the man he slew in Manila, the same man who has been following him across the planet. Blue Beetle I: The Blue Beetle is rookie police officer Dan Garrett. He wears blue business suit this one time as he takes down a gang of ruthless kidnappers. He is already wanted by the police and feared by felons in his first appearance. Officer Mike Mannigan,a patrolman and Dan Garrett's partner, desperately wants to arrest the Blue Beetle. The Blue Beetle sometimes uses a souped up car made a hardened steel by Dr Franz in his early career. He also has access to a armed fighter plane. He was tweaking his costume for some time. Dan Garret was born on December 6th 1916, his unnamed mother died on December 20th 1920. His father Michael Garrett was a police patrolman in NYC. Dan wins an academic scholarship to college and becomes a star athlete, lettering in several sports. Michael Garrett is murdered in Dan's senior year. Dan joins the police after he graduates. Dan has to break the law as the Blue Beetle in order catch his father's killer in his first case. Dr Franz, a pharmacist whom Dan worked for as teenager is the only one who knows knows he is the Blue Beetle and aids him in solving crimes and later develops Vitamin 2X which gives the Blue Beetle super strength, reflexes and endurance. He has a young partner for a time in Sparkington J. Northrup, a Young English lad whose father ships to the United States to keep him safe during the war discovers the Blue Beetle's true identity in a fight with German agents trying to kidnap the boy. During WWII Dan joins the OSS and his identity is known by the US government. The reporter for the Daily Planet named Joan Mason is his love Interest. Bob Merritt and His Flying Pals: Bob is a and air plane designer who star in a serial involving gangsters and an Japanese military base hidden in Alaska that ends abruptly with his being shot. His specially designed plane is called the Bumblebee, His pals are named Buzz, Shorty, Jake, Tex, Dusty, Shorty, and Dickie Saunders. Note: See Federal Spy for the their final appearance. Boyville Brigadiers: Rusty forms the Boysville Brigadiers when a young man from Germany tries to take over the school. Their are five young men, but only Smiley Scott, Scotty, Ed, and Whitey are named. By 1942 they are working for the government. In the spring of 1942 they meet the beautiful Chinese spy Moi Yutong, who works with them for at time. The Boyville Brigadiers split up in 1946, with the exception Rusty, Alababa and Pierpont who continue to travel together. First Appearance: Feature Comics Vol 1 #45 June 1941
Brad Hardy: is an adventurer who goes into an underground world to rescue the Lorraine Lewis kidnapped. There he meets and is aided by Prince Karados against the forces of the wicked King Marius of he Grey People, who kidnapped Lorraine in order to force her into marriage. Bruce Nelson is a wealthy adventurer and amateur sleuth and pilot who solves crimes around the world. He smokes a pipe as well as cigarettes. He graduated Princely (Princeton) University and was an All-American football player there. Bruce has been to China and Africa and knows the culture, but not the language. Bruce works with different races, yet is suffers from a subtle racism of Blacks and Oriental. He is a pilot and an expert skier. First Appearance: Detective Comics Vol 1 #1 March 1937
The Buccaneer: Dennis Stone is a young sailor who takes command of the Serpant when the captain dies. His friend Daneo become first mate. He later frees a hunchbacked slave named Keboz and meets his lady love is Regina whom he marries. First Appearance: More Fun Comics Vol 1 #32 May 1938
Buck Marshall, Range Detective: Buck Marshall is a detective in the old west who aids the sheriff of Sage City, Texas. His horse's name is Pepper. He works until the early 20th century as there is some phone service. First Appearance: Detective Comics Vol 1 #1 March 1937
Buckskin Jim:Buckskin Jim is a young teenager named Jim Kennon, who missed a wagon train in New Orleans bound for California in the 1840's. He is clad in buckskins and a raccoon hat. He eventually catches up to the wagon train but it is unknown if he ever gets to California. First Appearance: New Fun Comics Vol 1 #1 January 1935
Bulldog Martin: Bulldog Martin and his black servant Jonah (A racist stereotype) have a series of adventures. Bulldog just seems to walk into the wrong place at the wrong time. First Appearance: Adventure Comics Vol 1 #40 July 1939
Bulletman: Bulletman is Jim Barr, the genius son of Police Sergeant Pat Barr, who was gunned down by gangsters. Jim gives his father a pledge to join the police on his father's deathbed. Jim is a genius and studies criminology and ballistics, his fascination with the latter gains him the nickname Bullet. Upon reaching adulthood Jim fails the physical for the police force as he is too skinny and short. Instead he joins the police laboratory. Sergeant Joseph Kent, his father's old partner does not believe in the use of science in police work, but his daughter Susan Kent does believe in Jim. Frustrated Jim creates a drug hat permanently cause him to grow and gives him super strength and greater intellect. Thus he creates the Gravity Helmet. He becomes Bulletman and captures a wanted felon.. First Appearance: Nickel Comics Vol 1 #1 May 1940
Bulletgirl: Susan Kent the fiance of Jim Bulletman Barr discovers his identity and becomes his partner in April of 1941, Her father Police Sergeant Joseph Kent begins to suspect that Susan is Bulletgirl by the fall of 1941. C Captain Bruce Blackburn, Counterspy: Army Captain Bruce Blackburn and Lieutenant Jackson work for Army counterintelligence. They fake their deaths after they are publicly identified in the newspapers. A plastic surgeon then makes the pair look exactly alike. Captain Daring: Captain Daring is a British naval officer assign the task of ridding the Caribbean of pirates, but his ship flounders in a storm with only he and an old shipmate named Patch surviving. Fortunately for for them them come ashore on an island where a small band of pirates are burying heir Captain. Captain Daring fights and wins the battles for the right of command over small pirate ship called the Hazard. Soon a pirate frigate called the Revenge tried to take the Hazard but Daring seizes the larger ship and becomes captain of the Revenge. Aboard the vessel is the Lady Delores Drayton, n niece of an English Royal Governor Sir Mark Drayton of the port city of Illyria, Captain Daring peacefully overtakes the fort covering Illyria and contacts the governor, shop him his orders and asks for Illyria to be the base of operations as he plans to use the pirate crew of the Revenge to wipe out the pirates of the Caribbean. Captain Desmo: Captain Desmo was in his teens when he led a squadron in the Great war so he is now in his thirties, traveling the world by plane. He smokes cigarettes as well as a pipe and is a premiere fighter and shot as well as pilot. He wears a pilot's helmet with a star. On the forehead and darkened goggles. He is never shown with at least darkened sunglasses. He speaks a wide variety o eastern languages fluently. He is not a detective but he is friends with an Oxford graduated Sayer Ashear whose hobby is criminology. He later gains a sidekick named Gabby McGuire. Captain Fortune: British Captain Tyrone Fortune commands the privateer English galleon HMS Revenge under orders from the British king to sink and capture pirated and French ships. His first mate is named Will Kentshire. First Appearance: Feature Comics Vol 1 #25 October 1939
Captain Grim starred in two serials the contemporary (1935) “In the Wake of the Wander” and “Sea Gold,” the latter was a story Captain Grim was narrating about an adventure in his past. Captain Grim sailed on a masted British naval vessel in “Sea Gold”, but was Captain of an American Naval ship in “In the Wake of the Wander.”Both of his stories took place in the Pacific Ocean South Seas His narration of the “Sea Gold” was never completed. From there he keeps being transported to other lands (Dimensions). For a time he is aided by an ax wielding dwarf named Volar and a cat -man. Eventually he goes to a land called Barlundia, meets and falls in love with the Princess Deela, daughter of Prince Marl.. He winds back on the surface and fights a trapper named Red Mike; but they become friends when they once again are trapped beneath the earth. Soon after they fight Lupa of the Wolf people. Death Patrol: Del Van Dyne is a wealthy pilot who cannot keep a job as a pilot. He runs into a group of escaped convicts (Safe Cracker Butch, Cattle Rustler Hank, Forger Pee Wee, con man Slick, and the pickpocket Gramps) who force to fly his plane away from the police. Del flies to England and convinces the escapees to fight for England. They raid Occupied France in their first mission where Pee Wee is killed. Arsonist Stoney Rock is the team's first replacement, who dies in a mission in Occupied Europe. Next the incredibly brave kleptomania Zazzy joins the Death Patrol. In November the Death Patrol gains a new member in Chief Chug-A-Lug as Butch is killed in a Mission over the skies of Occupied Europe In the beginning of 1942 Boris, the Borsht Eater joins the team as the Death patrol take on a gang of German Femme Fatales. Next the young inventive genius Frere Jacques, AKA the Patchwork kid joins, soon followed by Mademoiselle from Amentieres on a mission to Berlin. Del is shot down in an unrecorded mission but in April the Death Patrol rescue a shot down and Wounded Del with their newest member, the South American Bolas, who is quite adept with the weapon. That spring the Death Patrol goes to Africa when King Hotintot's lands is invaded by the Germans. When King Hotintot is believed to have died in the defense of his country His son, the newly crowned King Totinhot takes his place in the Death Patrol In the Fall of 1942 King Hotentot, Gramps, and Hank are revealed to still be alive and rejoin the team before they go on an unrevealed top secret mission. The Death Patrol in the summer of 1943 after completing a unrecorded secret mission with the newest member,the Indian known only as Yogi and their last recruit. Destiny II: Destiny is a poor homeless man who goes to see a psychic show with his last bit of change to get dry and warm. The psychic tells the man man that he a servant of fate and can both prevent and avenge wrongs by concentrating. The man thinks the psychic is nuts and leaves. Later he tries to concentrate on crime and teleport to where he stops Oscar Jones is killing a plastic surgeon. Destiny then sees how Jones killed #711. Oscar Jones escapes but Destiny see the Ghost of #711 and promises him that he will bring Jones to justice in his first full appearance. In 1944 Destiny learns his powers comes from Death. Destroyer 171: The USS Pawnee is a US destroyer commanded by Lieutenant Commander Harvey Blake with Lieutenant Fred Thomas Conroy as the executive officer. Lt Contoy's wife is named mary. They sink a Japanese carrier en route to do a raid on the Panama canal in their first appearance. In 1943 Commander Evans briefly replaces Commander Blake as the captain of the USS Pawnee when Blake is injured. Their mission is a search and rescue for survivors of the USS Thompson – Evans last command. They defeat a Japanese cruiser pick up the marooned crew f the Thompson that they find on an island and return home port for repairs incurred in their fight with the Japanese. In 1944 Lieutenant Conroy become the father of a baby boy named Fred Junior. Note: In my opinion this is the best War strip of WWII and of the best Navy strip of all time. Devil's Dagger: The Devil's Dagger and his battle with the underworld Boss Jeff Marlowe were already well reported on the pages of Carterville Daily Blade, run Editor Burton. His star reporter was Ken Wyman, scion of Carterville's wealthiest family, and unknown to all but his ex-prize fighter chauffeur Pat Gleason, Ken is the Devil's Dagger. His girl friend is Sandra Cole. He rides in a custom roadster called the Speed Ghost. He foils Marlowe's plans in his first appearance. Six months after his first recorded adventure, Devil's Dagger breaks up a drug smuggling ring as he learns that Jeff Marlowe is not the boss of the crime syndicate in Carterville. That distinction belongs to a man known as Mr H. Marlowe dies accidentally in final confrontation with the Devil's Dagger. In 1941 Dr Voodoo fights white men from a city that still lives in the Middle Ages. The only way he and Maxina will be allowed to leave is if Dr Voodoo is sent back in time the find the Golden Flask. He is captured the Spanish and made a slave. Dr Voodoo leads a slave revolt and they capture the Spanish galleon. H Hack O'Hara: Hack O'Hara is a New York City taxi driver who always finds away to get involved with crime. Hack was born in 1919, he stands 5'11” and weighs 170lbs. Hack lives with his Aunt Carry and lame nephew. In early 1943 Hack catches a pair of killers collecting a reward that gets his nephew an operation to allow him to walk. In 1944 Hack gets in the middle of a gang war and gets a five thousand dollar reward from the police after their arrest them including a killer who calls himself Satan. In 1947 Hack receives a new souped up bulletproof taxicab as a reward when he brings in the mobsters who built it. In 1949 Hack start wear extra padding in his hat as was getting to so many scrapes. He has super human strength and is invulnerable. He is a pilot. In 1941 Hercules gains nation fame when saves a town being terrorized by a gang of thugs. Lance O'Casey: Lance O'Casey sails the South Pacific with his pet monkey, Mr Hogan on the Brian Boru. His home port is the South Pacific island port of Maloana. He is an experienced deep sea diver and is pilot.. Lance follows an old pirate treasure map and meet Danial Doom, the grandson of a pirate. Mr Hogan finds a mate named Mabel in early 1941. In early 1942 Daniel Doom and Lance O'Casey part company when Daniel inherits millions from his cousin. In the Spring of 1942, Lance and Mister Hogan are thrown overboard in a typhoon. Madam Fatal: Madam Fatal is Richard Stanton, a famous wealthy retired stage actor who smokes a pipe. He is a veteran of the First World War. His daughter was born two years later and was kidnapped by John Carver a gangster and former lover of Stanton's wife, who die of heartbreak at the loss of her only child. Stanton took up the guise of Madam Fatal to find her nine years. He finally finds John Carver who dies before Stanton can find her. He never does find her. He has a pet parrot named Hamlet. Madam Fatal stops a kidnapping at a circus. Stanton then buys the circus to keep it operational. In December of 1941 Madam Fatal meets Tubby White and later offers Tubby a job when they take down a German sabotage ring. A month later in January 1942 Madam Fatal stop a crook from stealing an orphaned boy's inheritance as Scrappy Nelson becomes his second sidekick. His last two adventures are probably out of sequence as Madam Fatal is shot very badly in his second to last appearance. Mike Gibbs, Guerrilla: Mike Gibbs was a foreign correspondent for the New York Globe working in Paris on June 1st, 1940. Mike wear a signature lime green overcoat and brown hat. Mike is practical joker and played football in college. He is assigned to find and interview a Polish freedom fighter named Major Marie Hwart. Mike accidentally leads the Germans Marie, who is taken prisoner. Mike looks for her and finds her just France has fallen. Marie is working for the Allies and is Paris to set up the French Resistance. In the Summer of 1942 Minute Man fails in protecting Ruth Milton, General Milton's niece, though he does catch her killer. Jack Weston goes to Officer Candidate School in the Summer of 1943, meet Johnny Reb, an 88 year old confederate Veteran of the American Civil war an Union Veteran Billy Yank. Mister Scarlet: Mr Scarlet is special Prosecutor Brian Butler working in Gotham City. He defeats a gang of racketeers in his first appearance. He uses a .45 automatic. It seems he has had other cases before this. His Secretary Cherry Wade knows his secret identity. In December of 1941 Brian Butler then adopts Pinky and the lad becomes the partner of Mist Scarlet. In January of 1943 Mr Scarlet defeats a gang of robbers even as Wade Butler is fires as special district attorney because Mr Scarlet has been so successful at his job. The Monastery of the Blue God is an unfinished serial that starts in Sweden shortly after the armistice in WWI we meet the principals of this serial involving hidden sapphires in Mongolia. US cavalry Captain Douglas Stewart falls in love with Baroness Elsa Von Saxonburg. She has a huge sapphire and a note from her missing father about more of the same in Mongolia. Captain Stewart transfers to military intelligence and an assignment in China to find them. A good friend named Sergeant Miller joins him as does Corporal Drednoff who acts as an translator.
