Game Rant has suggested these as the six 'best' DC retcons.
1. The Doomsday Clock: I thought it wasn't a bad idea to have a Watchmen/DC mainstream crossover, but there's one underlying problem with this admittedly well-written story arc. It was basically intended to undo the universally panned Flashpoint trashing of DC's historical continuity which temporarily erased the Legion of Super Heroes and Justice Society from existence. Thankfully, Doomsday Clock undid that damage, although I'm deeply annoyed at the apparent erasure of the original Legion of Super Heroes from existence. However, at least they got the restoration of the JSA right!
2. The Three Jokers: I think they're exaggerating the impact of this again admittedly well-written Batman story arc. Still, it did leave some interesting premises. Batgirl and Red Hood, eh? And given what one of the Jokers did to her, why wasn't Barbara as willing to exact her revenge on him as Jason? However, that aside, I liked the character conflict between Bruce and Barbara on one hand, and Jason on the other.
3. Alfred Pennyworth's Background: Oh, definitely! Even if they probably got the idea from the Gotham television series, having Alfred have a past in the espionage or covert operations field so that he could assist Bruce in his pre-Batman training days, it's a logical development and good move. Added to which, it's in character with Alfred's loyalty to the Wayne family wanting to protect Bruce by teaching him what he knows about the intricacies of interpersonal combat. And keep an eye on young Bruce so he can keep him safe until he becomes an adult.
4. Crisis on Infinite Earths 1: I'm not a great fan of the CIE in some respects. Killing off the Crime Syndicate, messing up Power Girl's origin and the Legion of Super Heroes continuity were amongst its more harmful outcomes. However, the deaths of Supergirl and the Silver Age Flash were handled well. However, I think I prefer the 5Earths solution or, even better, restoring the Infinite Multiverse as a consequence of Convergence. Fortunately, the erasure of the first multiverse was undone twenty years later and we now have a core multiverse of 52 alternate Earths.
5. Flash of Two Worlds: An all-time classic. Beloved by DC fans for reintroducing the Justice Society of America, albeit on Earth-Two now.
6. Cyborg's Apokolips incorporation: I like Vic Stone as a character, but was this particularly embellishment necessary? Does it add anything to Cyborg's character? Although that said, I do like his incorporation into the current JLA roster.
Okay, here are six of my own:
7. Having J'Onn J'Onnz come from ancient Mars: I think that's a good way of recreating the Martian Manhunter as a believable character and it has the advantage of being scientifically valid.
8. Having Superman finally tell Lois the truth about his secret identity and marry her!
9. Restoring the Crime Syndicate to continuity.
10. An elevated LSH role for Mon-El: I've always had a soft spot for Lar Gand and it was good to see him getting the recognition he deserved.
11. Retrofitting Wonder Woman's origin with an increased focus on Greek mythology.
12. John Byrne's version of Krypton: This version of Krypton was an imperfect, technocratic dystopia, suggesting that the 'rot' set in long before the days of Jor-El's conflict with the obscurantist Science Council as the planet neared the dawn of what would have been its eleventh millennium.
And here are six that frankly stank to high heaven!
13. Trashing the LSH continuity.
14. Trashing Power Girl's origin.
15. Repeated retcons of Hawkman and Hawkwoman.
16. Trashing Barbara Gordon's Oracle period: She was an iconic DC disabled character and then suddenly... she wasn't.
17. Unkilling Barry Allen's Flash, Kara Zor-El's Supergirl, Hal Jordan/ Killing Ralph and Sue Dibny.
18. Trashing the All-Star Squadron and Infinity Inc timelines: It meant that Roy Thomas lost interest in completing the WW2 All-Star storyline and meant that new origins needed to be found for many Infinity Inc characters, which led to the erasure of their status as legacy characters from Earth-Two.
