In Elliot Maggins' classic World of Krypton story "The Greatest Green Lantern of All" ( Superman 257 (October 1972), the local sector Green Lantern, Tomar-Re of Xudar, does his best to harvest enough zeelium to prevent Krypton's detonation but due to being blinded by a nova while engaged in the task, he fails to save the embattled planet. The poor guy- judging from that story, he's carrying a lot of unnecessary guilt around because he believes he failed to save millions of people (due to circumstances beyond his own control), despite sustaining severe personal injury (being blinded, after all) in the process. Although the Guardians reassure him that they do not regard his valiant, courageous and noble actions to save the doomed planet as any less heroic despite its failure, I think there needs to be a Times Past story in which the following happens: Superman, Supergirl and the Kandorians/Rokynians invite Tomar-Re to the Fortress of Solitude. It's Remembrance Day, the yearly anniversary of the date of Krypton's explosion, but Tomar-Re is in for some heartfelt appreciation. Following Remembrance Day, Tomar-Re is startled to see a statue of himself in Kandor's main sequence and "Compassion Night", in which Kandorians commemorate Tomar-Re's valour and courage on their behalf. Because hey, he deserves a denouement like that: dc.fandom.com/wiki/Superman_Vol_1_257Perhaps also an epilogue in which they mourn Tomar-Re when he passes away too?

I wouldn't be surprised if the Guardians have some kind of therapy or drug to absolve Lanterns of at least some of the guilt they feel when they fail. In the history of the GL Corps there must be hundreds of similar or worse 'failures'. And we know that a power ring can alter memories (and that apparently, at least some Green Lanterns have no qualms or misgivings whatever about altering memories...)
Anyway, they must have some effective treatments. For warriors who carry with them at all times the most powerful weapon in the universe, a GL with PTSD could end up wiping out a whole civilization...

While I imagine that the Guardians probably do have some psychotherapeutic services available to Green Lanterns in that situation, I think that Tomar-Re deserves a better, more respectful denouement than just that. Hence my suggestion. There's nothing more beneficial than validation and closure, which is what hearing what his acts meant to Krypton's survivors would have meant to him. He deserves that particular coda to his actions.

Tomar-Re should DEFINITELY be invited for remembrance day.

I don't disagree, Red - it would be very cool and totally appropriate. On the other hand, I wouldn't put it past the Guardians to have totally wiped that event from his memory the next time he returned to Oa after Krypton exploded.

Yes, although this is intended to be a sequel to the World of Krypton story, so basically the Guardians are playing nice this time.
