A list of characters who appear in comic books or other fiction inside a fictional universe... please feel free to add your favorite Double Fiction characters!
5 Earths Universes
Centuryman - from Superboy #10 - a time hopping adventurer who wears a belt that allows him to time-travel. Nothing else is known about him...
Heroes from the 'Comics McCormick' strip.
In his short appearances, Comics McCormick often read about superheroes in comic books. He also imagined himself as various superheroes. These are some of the heroes he 'encountered' in the comics he was reading:
Inspector Cosmic Waterman Super-Dame Lady Wonder Pink Pigeon Crimson Canary
Identities assumed by Comics McCormick
The Kid Conqueror
Villains from the Comics McCormick strip
Super-Robot the Space Pirates the Octopus Dr. Hunchback
Heroes referenced by other writers:
Nightman The Wizard Archer

From "The Last Earth-Prime Story," Superman #411 (September, 1985): Ultra-Man = Superman analogue that ran from 1938 until its cancellation in the early 1970s Night Wizard = Batman analogue that ran from 1939 until its cancellation in the early 1970s Madame Miracle = Wonder Woman analogue that ran from 1941 until its cancellation in the early 1970s
Added by me, characters starring in the Earth-1 version of Star Spangled Comics: The Protector and the Paperboy Club == analogues of the Guardian and the Newsboy Legion Captain Blast and Detonator Don == analogues of TNT and Dan the Dyna-Mite Automaton == analogue of Robotman
Also appearing in Star Spangled Comics are these real Earth-2 characters: Star-Spangled Kid and Stripesy Liberty Belle Penniless Palmer
I'd place these in the same category as: From Showcase #4: The Flash (Jay Garrick), when he was thought to be a fictional comic-book character

From Action Comics #272: "Superman's Rival, Mental Man":
Mental Man was a comic-strip character that Lois Lane created. Mental Man was engaged to Laura Lovely, a double for Lois herself. Mental Man seemingly comes to life, but he is revealed to be Aquaman.
This story is a rewrite for Earth-1 of an earlier Superman story that I place on Earth-2: "The Adventures of Mental-Man," Action Comics #196. In this story it is Daily Planet staff artist Al Fallon who created the comic-strip. As on Earth-1, Mental-Man seemingly comes to life, until he is revealed to be Superman himself. Even in the final strip in the Daily Planet Mental-Man is unmasked as Superman. That's a shame, too, because he had an interesting backstory, being the last survivor of an ancient civilization that sank beneath the Atlantic (implied to be Atlantis but not identified as such).

The Wizard Archer: From "The Comic Book Archer," Adventure Comics #269 (February, 1960) Published by All-Star Comics, a young artist named Bill Nixon created a character called the Wizard Archer, who is a lot like Green Arrow.

"Case of the Funny Paper Crimes," Superman #19 (1942) featured a few comic-strip characters brought to life by Funnyface and who were analogues of real-world characters: Prince Peril (Prince Valiant) and his enemy Torgo Detective Craig (Dick Tracy) and his enemy Machine-Gun Mike The Solitary Rider (The Lone Ranger) and his enemy the Black Raider Streak Dugan (Flash Gordon) and his enemy Goola Happy Daze (?) and his enemy Viper I adapted this story (and All-Star Squadron #64, which was itself an adaptation) into a story I called All-Star Squadron: Funny-Paper Love

Kolossal Komics published characters based on real-life heroes as seen in "Who Rubbed Out the Editor?" Detective Comics #70 (December, 1942):
Keen Arrow = Green Arrow Showerman = Aquaman The Sunburned Kid = The Vigilante

There are several other fictional characters come to life who are thinly veiled versions of characters such as Superman. I just haven't tried to collect them all in one place before.

Happy Daze may be an analogue for a panel called Gay Thirties.

Wow, this is interesting so far! I knew about Mental Man, but never heard of some of those others. If we are submitting double fiction characters we have created, I have Sturdiman, the Rush, the Chimney Sweep, and the White Rabbit.

In an issue of Infinity Inc, Lyta Trevor had a Captain Carrot phone, implying the Zoo Crew were fictional characters there.
I've done the same thing with Justa 'Lotta Animals on E-1. Jasma Kent was watching a Super Squirrel cartoon.
