Curious about the demon mother of Blaze and Satanus

gotta be Nick - it is referred to throughout one of our posted stories, which is built on by some other stories... I didn't realize Nick was kidnapped before Mary had her powers, but it sounds like it has to be one of her earliest adventures. But I'm confused - Mary didn't have an adopted father when she got her powers in Fawcett stories? And then her dad suddenly showed up? I haven't read all the early Mary stories so I don't remember any of that...

Her adoptive father s completely missing in all Mary Marvel stories, in fact. He’s not even so much as mentioned in passing, as far as I’ve been able to determine. The kidnapping must have happened before Mary ever got her powers, for unknown reasons. Alternatively, it could have happened off panel just after Mary got her powers, but that complicates things because you would think she and her mother Nora would have been in mourning in all her earliest stories if they thought him dead.

Nick Bromfield appears to have been forgotten by all, indicating that some magic was involved, explaining why the Marvels never attempted to find him all those years.

He was likely believed to have died for certain, and not merely abducted. Perhaps an extended origin story for Mary Marvel could explain all of these inconsistencies.

If he had gone missing recently, you would think that Mary's mother would still be searching for him, and that Nora and Mary were still grieving over him and it would have shown up in some story or other.

So agreed, he must have been gone for a significant time before Mary got her powers. It seems like Nora and Mary must have been convinced that he had died. Possibly he was missing in action and presumed dead in some of the hostilities before the US entered the war? Maybe he was in Military Intelligence?

Jeez, nothing seems to be sacred... apparently in today's DC universe, the Bromfields were abusive parents. Why does everything DC touches these days become dark and gloomy?

So, perhaps: Nick went missing some time in the 30s, and Mary and Nora were convinced he was really dead, not just missing, and some time later Mary discovered that he had been kidnapped by Blaze and Satanus, and she (and some allies) went to Hell and released him.

Blaze claims Mary owes her a soul, but I don't remember why. Of course, Blaze is a demon so who knows how valid this claim is?

Well, Satan is called the Father of Lies, so there are several possibilities:

-They're lying outright

-They're only telling half the truth, but it depends on contingencies,
so there are also untruths in that statement

-They're telling a time-locked truth, which ceases to be valid after a certain point
ie it was true at one time, but has since become false

-They're twisting the truth, because there are contingencies that would negate it
being true, which Blaze is aware of

-They're withholding information that would make the statement's truth/falsity dependent
on specific preconditions

-They're bluffing, because they don't know whether the statement is true or false either.

I don't remember how the issue was resolved. I think there was going to be a straight up fight between Mary and Blaze (in which, of course, Blaze would have cheated). Maybe, while rescuing Nick, Mary inadvertently promised a soul to Blaze?

Sounds like a good story for someone with a bent for mythology - or possibly a round robin or group authoring project? Plus, of course, whoever works on it would have to do some research on our current stories to find out everything we think we already know...
