Untold billions of years after Kal-El and Lois watched the red giant sun go nova and destroy the deserted molten Earth of that time, the immortal couple had travelled through a black hole to a younger universe. But, of course, Kal-El was not the only immortal Kryptonian whose body had been energised by ultra-solar radiation and had lived into that unimaginably distant future. Kara Zor-El decided to remain in that universe to protect its surviving civilisations. As time wore on, most of the former main sequence stars in the Milky Way galaxy became red giants and then white dwarves. Finally, that befell even the longer-lived red dwarves. Civilisations tapped into the last remaining energies of the nearly moribund stellar masses as well as the other former giants of the immeasurably distant past and for billions of years more, Kara protected them from the vagaries of the ageing cosmos. Finally, carbon-based and silicon-based lifeforms exited their universe of origin through black hole singularities, emerging through white holes into alternate and younger universes. Kara looked around her and saw the final end of the white dwarves, whose stellar furnaces had now been completely exhausted and had been transformed into inert and wholly dead black dwarves. For trillions of years more, Kara still remained there, protecting the last recognisable remnants of sapient life as neutron stars collided and momentarily formed viable stars and planets. She saved them from disaster and malignance, but in their turn, they aged and died and she couldn't always save these distant civilisations, even at her prodigious speed and with her senses. But there came a time when the last black hole civilisations decided to evacuate the universe, conscious that there would soon be a phase change and that even these last remnants of her universe would eventually perish, flaring heat and light into the cosmos before all matter and energy had utterly perished, any concept of space was untenable and 'time' became an utterly meaningless concept.
Finally, Kara recognised, the time had come. She accelerated into one of the last remaining black holes at vast speed, gritting her teeth as the gravitational and electromagnetic stressors tore into her. However, it was only a fraction of a second that she had to endure that challenge as ahead of her, a white hole began to form and then, she accelerated out into a far younger cosmos. Around her, she witnessed nearly forgotten sights- stars, nebulae, galaxies and planets pirouetted around her. She spotted the second planet of a yellow sun, monitored its radio and television broadcasts, assimilated its histories and languages and decided to choose this world as her new home. Imperceptibly, she gathered the necessary electromagnetic pulses required for credit within its computer mediated communication networks and dressed in native planetary style, fabricating an identity to conceal her own. And thus, the battle for truth and justice was born anew from the survivor of a dead planet and now a dead universe. But she was Kara Zor-El, Goddess of Justice. She would endure.
Forever.
