Chapter 60 The Man in a Box
Monday , July 26th 1936, Berlin Germany
June Justis remained a docile, compliant prisoner as she rode in the car with Despitita and de la Rosa because she was concerned for Kim Wan's safety. They didn't blindfold her so she saw them follow the car that had Kim. The two vehicles entered a gated property just on the outskirts of Berlin. Past the gates she saw a well manicured lawn and an old, large, grand mansion. They were taken inside together.
The inside was as rich and grand as the outward appearance. June was separated from Kim as soon as they arrived. Two maids and de la Rosa thoroughly searched June. They took her from her the pistol she had in her purse as well as her second gun – the one strapped to her garter belt. The small jack knife she kept in her purse was also taken as well as the hat pit she used to keep her small hat on. They gave her back her purse and hat. She was now weaponless except for her sharp mind, judo skills, and steel toed high heels.
She was taken to a large library. There was no sign of Kim, but she spotted the famed aviator and air craft designer Bob Merritt sprawled out on a black leather couch and a man with black hair, and a short beard sitting at a desk by a large window. “Where's Kim?” she asked
The man at the desk looked up from what he was reading and said. “The boy is fine. He is too loquacious for my tastes. And I have no need fro him until his father arrives. I have no need of you either Miss Justis, so stay there and be quiet until I am ready to talk to you. Feel free to read a book if you wish.”
The man went back to reading. June thought of half a dozen ways she could attack this man but decided to look over his book collection instead. An hour late she heard a car come up the driveway. A few minutes later a butler arrived with a large wooden box that had a glass plate on one side and two speakers on the others. When the man at the desk looked up the butler said this just arrived from Golonia Sir”
The man at the desk frowned. “I told that red headed bastard I wanted him here personally.” he pointed to a table and told the butler to plug the device in to the nearby electrical socket. June had heard about television before, but had never actually seen one. She was amazed when the picture in the glass was in color. Not even the movies were in color. A red headed man's image to center stage. His voice betrayed a slight Eastern European accent as he spoke in German to the man at the desk. “I have looked over the blue prints. They are a good beginning for your needs, but I need to see the actual device.”
I gave you what I had last week Alexei” said the man behind the desk.
“You sold me the first two parts and the blueprints, as for the third, most important piece, but I can't improve upon them until I have the actual equipment” said the man named Alexei.
“You would have it if you came her personally, instead of sending this box” spat the man behind the desk.
“No, if I came there I would lose my freedom. I am willing to work with you, not for you” said the Alexei. “Turn the machine on when you have the third part. I will examine it from here. The red headed man then left the picture. The butler unplugged the machine and left.
The man behind the desk went back to reading until Bob Merritt let out a soft groan.

Chapter 61 An Offer
Monday , July 26th 1936, Berlin Germany
Bob Merritt became conscious ever so slowly. He had dully listened to a conversion between people speaking some foreign language, German he thought, but wasn't sure. Bob spoke German but his brain was dulled by the drugged coffee he had this morning. He drifted back to a state of semi-consciousness for some time as he desperately tried to regain full consciousness.
Eventually he did, but he remain quiet, keeping his eyes shut sensing and listening to the world about him. His senses told him he was lying in some comfortable leather furniture. Some one was turning page from a book. The hint of perfume told him a woman was either in in the room or had just left. After a few minutes he realized she was still there because the scent did not go away, then he heard the distinct sounds of high heels on a wooden floor. He heard other footsteps , also high heeled and not farther away, in another room he thought.
Briefly and slowly he opened his eyes as he figured the light might bother his eyes like the few times when was hungover. He was relieved when it, like the noise did not bother him. He saw a black haired bearded man he did not know reading a book behind a large desk and blond woman he did. He involuntarily groaned when he tried to sit up as his head now pounded like it did when he was hungover.
Still Bob managed to sit up. June Justis went over to Bob and asked if he was all right. “He's fine Miss Justis said the man at the desk. The man sighed as he closed the book saying to himself in fluent English without a trace of accent, “Pity, I was almost at the author's concluding arguments.”
Bob put a hand to his head as he said “Sorry if we disturbed your reading; but you brought us here.”
The man at the desk took out a pocket watch and looked at it as he said “So I did. You I planned for; Miss Justis I did not.”
Bob didn't try to stand as he was having trouble with his balance just sitting upright. “Did your orders include kidnapping and murder?”
The man smiled as he said “No, I told my people to bring you here. I left the details to them.” Looking at June the man added “The same was with Kim Wan. His father has something I want and the only way to get it is an exchange. His son for the transmitter. You Miss Justis unfortunately got in the way. My orders were quite specific in that no law enforcement personnel were to be killed.”
“How thoughtful of you” sneered June.
“I didn't do it out of kindness Miss Justis. Killing a police officer unnecessarily is stupid because it brings the authorities down on you. If you're merely missing the police will merely suspect foul play and won't move decisively. My agents could not have you notifying your partners about Kim Wan's abduction before they contacted Harry Wan. That is the only reason you are not dead.”
June listened to the man's explanation as to why she wasn't killed at the pool. “Why didn't they kill me later?”
The man smiled like a fox in a hen house before saying. “I knew Harry Wan would want to speak to his son before agreeing to my demands. Kim knew you were in my hands. If they killed you en route he would have tried to tell his father. Needless violence would have happened. Harry Wan needs to trust that I will hand over his son safely.”
“Why haven't you disposed of me since then?' asked June.
“You remained quiet when I told you” the bearded man said in a matter-of fact tone. Though the man's body language and speech denoted a calm urbane, yet military bearing; June noted the man's eyes had a dangerous feral look to them.
“Since no one knows where you are; I am going to give you the opportunity to work for me. You will die tonight if you decline it.” he then turned to Bob Merritt who was still struggling with his balance as he sat in the leather sofa. “I give you the same offer Mr Merritt.”
Bob gave up the fight against his dizziness as he leaned back against the sofa. “Your offer is a bit late. I was poisoned months ago. I only have a few weeks to live at most.”
The black haired man laughed at this pronouncement. Bob started to say something but the man at the desk cut him off by saying “Monk Morton was one of my agents. I had you poisoned and I have the cure as well.”
Bob's eyes widened “What!? Why?!” he shouted even as he tried to stand before falling back into the sofa.
“Your aviation designs are revolutionary and I have had my on you for some time since I want to adapt your designs for war planes, but I knew that you would oppose any military usage of your designs. This opposition left you in need of cash, and I hoped that eventually you would have had to turn to the military but when Campbell gave you your financial backing* (See New Fun Comics #5) I had Morton interfere with your Alaska operation.”
“We beat him at every turn” said Bob.
June raised an eyebrow, turning to Bob she said “I read the classified report Bob made about an Asian air base in an extinct volcano.. “ She then turned back to the man behind the desk saying “Your agents murdered the Japanese counsel in Hawaii as well as Bob's men. Were rogue Japanese agents working for you as well?”
The man behind the desk smiled at June as he said “No, they were agents of the Black Dragon Society. They want Imperial Japan to go to war with the United States. They foolishly believe they can win such a war on their own. I want a war between your nations, but not yet.”
“But your agents killed the counsel, a Japanese prince for Christ's sake” said June. “You have some kind of stake in this.”
The black haired man gave June and appraising look before he said. “Yes, your right. The Black Dragon Society paid me to have him killed. I thought that the odds were good that the emperor would call in Mr Mata and he would expose the Black Dragons, cause a diminishing of their power and an increase of mine.
“You have influence in Japan?” asked Bob.
“I have influence in every nation of the planet Mr Merritt. A war is coming. It will probably start with in the next ten years all on its own. I would prefer it to start sooner. In the coming week I will take over Germany. Russia will fall to me within the next year. Japan perhaps one or two years after that ” said the black haired man.
“If you did...the rest of the world would oppose you” said June.
“No, I have enough influence in the democracies to keep their respective militaries small. Besides I prefer to stay in the shadows. I have had my time in the adoring peasant's view. When I am ready the rest of the world will be ineffectual against my combined German-Russian Juggernaut I will be able to conquer Europe Asia and Africa. Then when I combine that army with the Japanese fleet the Americas will fall.”
“You're mad” said June softly.
The man smiled at June. “No, I've been working on conquering the world for a long time. Suffering set back at times, but I assure I will win in the end. But enough about this' he said as he reached in to his desk and took out a vial and a hypodermic needle.
“Mr Merritt this,” he said as he held up the vial, “The contents of this vial is the antidote to your poison. But unless you take by midnight tonight it will be to late to save you. You join me can and live or die.”
Bob was about to respond when he heard a car approaching the house. “Who's that? He asked.

Chapter 62 The Illustrious Detective
Monday , July 26th 1936, Berlin Germany
Harry Wan was scared, not for himself, but for his eldest son Kim, because the two men in the car with him had not bothered to blindfold him. That told him that they intended to kill him after he delivered the kidnappers the device that sat on his lap. Harry knew that the two men were Gestapo because of the cruel and arrogant way they carried themselves.
Harry wan concealed a smile despite his fear because fools driving him were oblivious the to the fact that they were being followed. The arrangements he with Captain Strasser were finally bearing fruit. The German police captain told Harry that he and his men could not interfere with the Gestapo; but he agreed to tell Steve Carson if the Nazi Party was in any way involved the murders in Honolulu. Strasser was patriotic German, but he detested the government. Harry Wan felt assured that Strasser would let Steve know where Harry was, and the he along with Bart Regan, Sally Norris, Mr. Mata, and possibly even the drunken Charlie Nicholas would come to rescue Harry and his son. He only prayed that they would not be too late.
They drove to an vast estate with a large ornate mansion just outside of Berlin. One of three guards dressed in standard German army fatigues let the vehicle in. the car stopped at the front of the mansion and a butler opened the door even as the two Gestapo agents escorted Harry out of the car. The briefcase Harry held was taken from him as he was taken to a small room off to the side. The two Gestapo agents had him strip to his underwear as the searched him and his clothing. Satisfied that he had no weapons or tracking devices they let him dress.
As Harry exited the small room he heard his son's voice cry “Pop.” Harry looked to the right and saw his son coming down the stairs escorted by another pair of obvious Gestapo agents. Kim's face was bruised and swollen, not badly, but enough to be noticeable. Harry's fear increased, as did his anger. He forced himself to calm down because a neither fear or anger could help him now; only his calm rational deductive mind could save them.
After a brief, all too brief reunion were father and son brought to another room with two of their escort stopping just outside the entrance, presumably to stand guard while the other tow brought the Wan's in to the room. It was a large library that took up two of the mansion's three floors. The butler who had opened the door and Herb Cartwright were standing at a table that had a large box on it. There was glass screen on one side of the box with the face of a red headed man taking up most of it. He saw June Justis standing by a sofa where Bob Merritt was sitting in slouched position with and a defeated look on his face. There was a desk by the room's large main bay window that had a black haired man was sitting in the chair behind the desk. The two spies he had been chasing since he left Honolulu where standing to the right of the desk.
All was quiet until the man behind the desk spoke: :Welcome to my humble abode, Detective Wan, I am Baron Wandale Wilden.
Harry bowed to the baron as he said, “That is your name in German, but I know you have many other names.”
“Quite so” said the baron. “Your friend Mr Mata's International Police Commission is causing me problems across the globe; but they can not help you now.”

Chapter 63 Deductions & Explanations
Monday , July 26th 1936, Berlin Germany
Harry Wan reached into his jacket pocket, taking out a gilded gold cigarette case. As he took one of the cigarettes he said “Excuse please, your men took my lighter.”
Harry noticed the feral eyes of the man behind the desk calculate the possibility any threats from Harry having a smoke. The man said. “Fritz, give him one of yours and Mr Wan will give his.”
Harry sighed. “I hope this is not a German cigarette. European tobacco is not as good as American.”
“Nien,” said Fritz. “I only smoke the best.”
Harry lit his cigarette and inhaled,; Fritz had not lied it was an excellent tobacco. He gave his guard a nod of thanks as he looked over to the table where his brief case was being opened. Turning to the desk he said “You have been planning this crime for quite some time.”
“No” said the baron. “Only a few months.”
“I see,” said Harry. “So I take it you had Mr Merritt poisoned before this operation was planned?”
The baron frowned. “Why do you say that?”
Harry could tell others in the room were wondering how he knew his guess to be true. Harry smiled as said . “I have known that Mr Merritt was ill since I first met him in Honolulu. I had my department check on his background and found out he had been shot I Alaska. It was a wound from which he should have recovered from by now. Poison is the only explanation to his current condition. Yet Mr Merritt has always had the spirit to carry on until now. Today I see a man who is dejected and has lost all hope, there is a vial on your desk. I must infer from Mr Merritt's demeanor that the vial contains a cure. One which you will give him if he agrees to work for you.”
“Your reputation for deduction is well justified said the baron. “As good as Sherlock Holmes, I should say.”
“This one is humbly honored to be held in such company” said Harry. Yet you did meticulous planning so that I would not be involved in this case.”
The baron was intrigued with Harry's last point, but he was more interested in the case on the table. He turned to the table and spoke to the redheaded image on the screen. “Well, Alexei, can this machine do what Cartwright says it can do?”
“I will not know until we open the case. I need to see inside the devise.” said the man on the screen.
Cartwright said, “I'll go get my tools,” and left the room.
The baron nodded before turning to his prisoners. “You were saying how I planned for you not to be involved in this case. Please tell me how you know this.”
Harry said “I did not know this was done until the crime had been committed. Several weeks before the test of the robot plane I received approval for a vacation, one which I would be incommunicado with the outside world. Normally no one outside of the police department and my family would know of this. But I noted that the calender my desk had been disturbed the soon after my approval. I assumed until the murders that in was an accident because the cleaning staff is under orders not to touch the desks of detectives.
Then I learned of the new radio telescope was coincidentally have a test at the same time as Mr Merritt's plane. I know now that you have agents at the observatory as well as the Honolulu police department's cleaning staff. FBI Agent Ventner will arrest them as soon as I am discovered to be missing. I would have had arrested earlier but I know that there are hotel employees under your control.”
Harry saw the baron's frown deepened. “ I also want to thank Miss de la Rosa for not killing my second oldest son and my namesake.”
The female spy sighed haughtily, “We were ordered not involve you Mr Wan. Otherwise I would shot both of them” she said and she look at Kim with evil intent.
Harry ignored her as he said “Yes, but in doing so you botch the baron's plan and brought not only my humble self into this case, but also Mr Mata.”
The baron said “That is true Yvonne, I wanted Mr Mata brought in, but not Harry Wan. You should have killed him there and then with his sons, ” as he opened a desk draw and took out a pistol. Yvonne de la Rosa started to protest but the baron shot her between the eyes before she said a word. He turned to Despirita and told him he was lucky that his part of the operation went smoothly before ordering the small man to remove the body.
Harry finished his cigarette and said “I suppose your supposed defection to the Unites States was a ruse so you could kidnap Terry Sloane and embarrass President Roosevelt.”
“Yes” said the baron as he put the pistol back in the desk drawer. “The Americans have not contacted me; so I suppose Mr Regan and Miss Norris were told to abort their mission. But I have kidnapped Terry Sloane.” They heard a car approaching the house. “That would be him now.”

Chapter 64 Revelations
Monday , July 26th 1936, Berlin Germany
Terry Sloane did not go through the same process that Harry Wan went through he was brought directly into the library because no one thought the seventeen year old boy was dangerous. Terry went right over to Kim when he saw his fellow prisoners and ask his friend if he was all right.
Less than a minute late Herb Cartwright came in with his tool kit. “I'm sorry it took so long your Excellency, your servants unpacked my valise and I had to search for my tools.”
“Apologies accepted” said the baron as Cartwright began opening the machines insides.
“Why was I and my friends brought here ?”demanded Terry.
“Because I wanted you here boy.” he turned to one of the Gestapo agents who brought Terry in and said “Break the lad's left wrist is he raises his voice to me again.”
Terry began to said something when June Justis put a firm and calm hand on his shoulder. In normal calm tone Terry asked “May I please know why we are here.”
“You boy are here because of you and Mr Merritt are here because of your marvelous machine. The others are here because they got in my way. For you, Mr Merritt, and Miss Justis I have an offer. For the Wan's I only offer a peaceful coupe de Grace.”
Terry's eyes widened and he audibly swallowed. “ I won't help you in any way if you kill any one of these people.”
The baron smiled at Terry's answer. “You may need to reconsider your answer boy. Once Cartwright opens your machine and Alexei inspects it we may not need you.”
Cartwright was lifting the machine;s cover just then he gasped when he saw the insides and Alexei laughed loud and richly.
The baron stood immediately and said “What's wrong?”
Alexei said “What's wrong my friend is that you have been deceived.”
“What! How!” exclaimed the baron. “Excellency please I didn't know! Pleaded Cartwright.
“Know what?” said an increasingly angry baron.
“That the insides of this machine contain a transmitter, battery and dictaphone. This is twice in the same say that someone has fooled you,” said Alexei before the screen on the box went dark.
The baron turned and look wrathfully at Harry Wan, “Where is the real machine?” he asked as his hand went for the drawer that contained his pistol
“Pearl Harbor” answered Harry.

Chapter 65 Enemies at the Gate
Monday , July 26th 1936, Berlin Germany
Sergeant Franz Roth was on edge because several gestapo cars had come to the general's residence. His were worried that the General's plans had been discovered., but Roth was not worried. The Gestapo would come with armed soldiers if the planned coup had been found out. Besides he told his men “How could there be a successful elimination of Hitler without the secret police?”
A limousine was coming up the road. Sgt. Roth's brow became knitted when he saw steam coming out of the engine. The vehicle came to a complete stop in front of the gates of the Wilden Estates. Sgt Roth came over to the car even as the chauffeur came out of the car. “You can't stay here” said the Sgt. Roth.
“Please” said the tall, handsome dark haired chauffeur. In an Italian accent “The Countessa's car had overheated. If I could get some water to fill the radiator I will leave once it cools down.”
Sgt Roth was not a trusting man. He pointed his Mauser machine gun pistol at the Chauffeur and said “open up the hood.”
A woman's voice from inside the car said “Carlo, tell that officer that I need to stretch my legs.”
The rear car door opened before Sgt Roth could object. Private Wilheimer jaw dropped when he saw the countessa step out of the limousine. He new Roth didn't care for women, but he did, and this one was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen.
Private Rosen stood inside the little shed that gave them small shelter from the elements. He wanted to go out and get a better look at the couple but he needed to stay inside, at the ready to push the alarm button.
Sgt Roth was frowning now. He could not chase away Italian royalty, nor could he just shoot the pair. Looking at the open hood he saw the car was indeed over heating. “Wilheimer, get in back and help me push the car over to the side of the road.” The chauffeur went to door and leaned his shoulder into the door frame while grabbing the steering wheel.
The contessa went over to the shed. She smile at Private Rosen as she opened up her purse. I don't suppose you have a ladies room?” she asked. Rosen was about to point to the chamber pot when the end of the purse that was facing him exploded. His brain had just registered this piece of information when he died without hitting the alarm button.
Sgt Roth's back was to the chauffeur who turn to see him. The chauffeur reached into a hidden compartment in the door and drew out a pistol with I silencer attachment, whirled, fired once, hitting Sgt Roth in the heart.
Private Wilheimer gasped as the rumble seat suddenly popped open an oriental man jumped out the small man hit the German soldier once in the larnx, causing him to drop his rifle as he collapsed to the ground the small man hit Private Wilheimer again, knocking him unconscious.
Mr Mata hand cuffed the unconscious German soldier and dragged his off the road. Bart Regan donned the dead Sergeant's helmet and took his post guarding the gates while Sally Norris examined the shed.
Mr Mata dragged the dead Sergeant's body off to the side of the road as Sally came out of the shed.
“Was there really a need for such violence?” Mr Mata asked Sally.
“Maybe not, but there is a great need to keep the alarm from going off” said Sally. “There no control for the gates in the shed Bart.”
“Right, call Steve” said Bart. Sally went to he limousine and called on the radio Steve Carson and the awaiting SS stormtroopers.
Sally stripped off her dress and donned a black pants of pants and blouse as well as combat boots while waiting for Steve. Five motor cycles with side cars drove up to the gates. Steve Carson and three German soldiers got out of the side cars. The Germans put the bodies of the dead guards into the side cars. Mr Mata looked very harshly at the one carrying the man he had knocked unconscious because the man was now dead.
Steve went to Mr Mata “ Mata everyone except the kidnapped victims have been already sentence to death by order of the Fuhrer.” Mr Mata nodded in acceptance before going to Private Wilheimer's body to retrieved his handcuffs. The five motorcycles and the limousine left. The three German stormtroopers took the guards positions while Steve, Bart, Sally and Mr Mata went over the wall and crossed the yard to the mansion.

Chapter 66 Vengeance
Monday , July 26th 1936, Berlin Germany
Bob Merritt sat on the couch in a sprawling slouched manner. His outward demeanor was one utter defeat and hopelessness. Inside he was seething with anger. He needed to kill these men. This despicable Baron Wilden, the terrible turncoat Cartwright, and Despirita, the monster who had actually killed his friends. He stood when Harry Wan told them the robot planes transmitter. Slowly he walked past Harry and the others. One of the Gestapo goons moved to block his path to the baron.
“What do you want Mr Merritt?” asked the baron, his voice was calm, but it had a great anger in it.
“I will join you Baron Wilden...” Bob started to say before Wilden cut him off saying “Your Excellency.”
“Your Excellency,” Bob repeated, “I will join you, but only if Cartwright is killed.”
Cartwright's eyes widened he started to say something, but kept quiet instead while his master thought over Bob's proposal.
It was then that Despirita came running into the room with the two outside Gestapo guards from outside the room. “Excellency there are tanks at the gates!” he cried. This was followed by the sound of gunfire in multiple directions outside.
The Baron sighed. “Another plan comes to naught.” he looked about the room saw the six Gestapo agents, Despirita and his butler all waiting for orders, all looking at him. He sighed as he knew what was going to happen next, he just didn't know who was going to start it. It happened all at once. June Justis kicked the gun out of the hand of the nearest guard next to her. While the boy, Terry Sloan gave the guard nearest to him a karate chop to the neck, knocking him out. Harry Wan went to grab the gun the unconscious man dropped. Bob Merritt grabbed the envelope opener on Baron Wilden's desk.
Wilden pushed a button on the right side of his desk opening a secret door in the floor behind his desk. His chair dropped down but he did not because Bob Merritt had slammed the envelope opener through his hand, impaling on to the desk.
The butler then shot Bob as Despirita ran toward the desk. The four unengaged Gestapo agents were quickly recovering from their surprise but it was too late for them. June kicked out at another agent, who fell unconscious after her steel toed shoe connected with his head. Harry Wan took careful aim and shot the butler. While his son attacked the Gestapo agent whom June had just disarmed. While Terry dove into two other agents.
Bob fell he grimaced with pain. Then smiled when he saw a gun lying on the floor next to him. He picked it up and rose to his knees. He saw Cartwright edging his way along the wall trying to get to the baron's escape route. Bob fired twice, Cartwright fell dead. He then saw Despirita pulling the envelope opener out of his master's hand the baron fell through the hole. Despirita followed, along with the four bullets Bob had fired into him. Bob Merritt swayed from sided to side before falling to the ground dead.

Chapter 67 Endings
Monday , July 26th 1936, Berlin Germany
In the midst of the chaos of the fighting in the library came Steve Carlson and Bart Regan they quickly dispatched the remain Gestapo Agents. Sally Norris and Mr Mata were guarding the door. Sally yelled over gunfire and explosions happening outside “Bart We only have a minute left.”
“Right' said Steve as he fired at the large bay window, shattering it. “Harry, Kim, Terry June we've got to get out of here now.” through that window. ” Steve went to the broken window and lit a green flare before throwing outside. He then exited. Terry and Kim were escorted out by Harry and June. Next came Sally and Mr Mata. Bart left last, holding the lifeless body of Bob Merritt.
Steve lit another green flare as did Mr Mata and Sally, who handed hers to June before taking one from Bart and lighting it. The Green flares where a signal to the stormtroopers that this party was to leave undisturbed. Then they ran towards the wall as German stormtroopers assailed the mansion. They were on the other side of the estates walls when they heard a huge explosion that vaporized the mansion and killed most of the defenders as well as the stormtroopers.
The Americans were taken to a hospital and examined. They were all found to be well physically, though Harry worried about how the trauma would affect his son and Terry Sloane. They were taken to the hotel and were reunited with those who had stayed behind. Don Kerry and Red Murphy had been brought to the hotel from their respective hospital as well.
Mr. Mata did not go to the hospital. Instead he went to the Japanese Embassy and reported to the emperor what had happened. From there he was flown directly to Tokyo
The next morning the Americans had breakfast in a special dining room. They were served by German soldiers instead of hotel wait staff. Steve Carson had had to do all sorts of dangerous and distasteful thing in his FBI career but this was the worst. He took out a four sheets of paper from a briefcase he had brought to breakfast and hand papers to Terry and Km.
He asked for their attention and said the following “I'm glad we made it out of that mess last night. All of us except Bob Merritt, may he rest in peace.” To which the others said “Amen.” “But now comes the hard part. I know you most signed papers legally obligating to keep silent about what happened to you the last few days. The German don't want the world to know that elements of the army and their secret police were planning a coup during the Olympics” said Steve.
“So what, who cares what the Nazis want” said Terry.
“Right now we do Terry” said Don Kerry. “The Germans only allowed us to rescue you, and the others because we agreed to their terms. Otherwise they would have been blown up like the German stormtroopers”
Terry Sloane said “The baron had the entire mansion wired with explosives. Do you suppose he escaped?””
“Yes” said Steve.
“I need you and Kim to sign these papers. They make you legally bound to keep silent on this matter.”
Kim Wan did not want to sign the document in front of him. He watched June Justis and his father sign, but Terry Sloane just stared at the paper in silence.
“Are you signing that Terry” Kin asked, “Cause if you don't I won't either.”
“I'm just thinking Kim. Replied Terry. “I have know how bad the Nazis are, and I have good idea how bad Baron Wilden was, but I wonder which was the more evil.” Terry signed the papers followed by Kim.

Epilogue 1 The Games
Monday, August 30th, Berlin Germany
The Berlin Olympic games were over. America had won the second highest medal count including thirty gold medals. The American press was clamoring for more photos of America's champion athletes. Will Everett and Gus Grey were standing with track and field team when they saw Kim Wan and Betty Adams posing with the swim team. Libby Lawrence was nowhere to be seen. They walked over to the swimmers and said hi. They asked where Libby was and were told that she had already left for Warsaw Poland, she was going to work with her father at the American Embassy.
Then they spotted Terry talking to a young man who had been apart of the dressage team. Terry introduced the man, Rick Cannon, to the others adding to Gus “Rick just graduated from West Point but the army Rick put off his enlistment until after the games.”
“Congratulations sir,” said Gus, “I take it you'll be joining the Cavalry.”
“No, I don't think so. I'm thinking about military intelligence. Terry was telling me that one Libby Lawrence's father is in military intelligence, I was hoping to meet them.”
“I'm sorry to tell you that Libby and her father already left for Poland. Their not returning to America just yet” said Betty Adams.
The reporters were now asking for the gold medalist to come forward first. Terry smile at his friends and said Well I guess that's us.

Epilogue II What's in a name
Monday July 26th 1948, West Berlin Germany
Steve Carlson was enjoying his meat loaf sandwich at the Hotel International. A restaurant he briefly owned in 1936 and was now own by the United States Government. It was now run by the CIA and some of the best chefs in Europe. It was mistake to come here reflected Steve as he thought about the Olympic Games a dozen years earlier.
Steve had spent the last two years investigating Nazi war criminals and was totally sickened by man's inhumanity to man. He kept thinking he had made a mistake when he went to Himmler and thwarted Windale Wilden's coup. The Nazi death camps weighed heavily on his mind and anguished his soul. He looked at his half eaten sandwich and stood, he paid his bill and left.
He walked through the ruined streets of West Berlin in a sour mood. He thought of June. He met her during this case. They went their separate ways after this games. He had heard she left the bureau and married some fellow from Wisconsin. His cousin Bart married Sally back in 1939, forcing Sally to retire. Bart had a desk job now along with a couple of kids.
Steve was still happily single. Well usually happily single he reflected. Remembering the Games and their consequences brought him down. He walked back to the embassy and was told that a visitor was waiting for him in his office.
Sandra McLane, e CIA station chief for Europe was sitting at his desk. Steve's bottle of scotch was on his desk along with two full glasses. “I've got something to show you Steve” said Sandra as he reached into his jacket pocket. You know about the Injustice Society” . “How they almost to over America last year.”
“Of coarse, we in the middle of arranging transport back to the States when he heard that the JSA had the situation well in hand and the crisis was over. Those were desperate times .the Commies tried to take advantage of the situation. It was touch and go until Superman went on a European tour for a couple weeks.”
“Well take a gander at photos of the Injustice Society leaders” said Sandra
Steve didn't know why she was making such a request but he complied. The photos gave the leader's real name as well as their villainous identity, “W.I. Zard, you can't be serious” laughed Steve. He continued looking and look long and hard when he saw the last leader of the Injustice Society. “I know this guy, Vandal Savage, reputedly an immortal from prehistoric times. His name is really Wandale Wilden.”
“Yes Steve, I know. But what does Wandal Wilden mean in German?”
Steve sighed before saying “Vandal Savage.
