Two Lex Luthors talk to each other about their divergent lives...For one of him, it doesn't end well.

THE DARK ROOM:
Lex Luthor found himself sitting alone in a dark space:
"Do you really think there's any way back for you, Lex? Happy to see me?"
"Who are you?"
"You know who I am. You know me better than anyone else.I'm you, Lex."
"How? This...this is impossible."
"No, it isn't. Remember all the times that we spent together? The major adrenaline rush when we cut corners, trying to develop new and innovative solutions. You can't beat that. The sense of power, the potential fame. Hey, everything that you could have been, everything that you could still be. But you stepped away from me, dude. Why?"
"You're wrong. You are not me."
"Yes, I am. Look at me. We're still the same person."
"I left you behind. You're what I was years ago. But you're not who I am now."
"Oh, come on. Redemption?! After everything you did? All the times that you almost tried to kill Superman and you didn't care who got injured or hurt or killed on the way. You deserve to suffer. Inside here. With me."
ELSEWHERE:
"It was so real, Clark. I was in the same room as him. I asked who it was, but I knew it was me-the lust for power, the selfishness, the megalomania, the blind hatred of others and myself. But was it me? I don't know anymore. He knew everything about me."
"But Lex...you changed. You became someone else. He's not the man you are now."
"That doesn't mean I don't still think about those times. The times that I tried to kill you, attack innocents. Clark, I'm so damned ashamed of who I was."
"That isn't the Lex Luthor I know now. The man who realised what his life was turning into in time and who reversed course and became someone else. Lex? You need to realise this- the past doesn't define or enslave you. Always remember that."
THE DARK ROOM:
"Didn't I tell you so? Nothing's changed."
"Why are you still there? You don't exist anymore. You are not me. Nor will you ever be again."
"Come on, Lex. You still want me here."
"No, I don't. You make me sick and disgusted! Go!"
"Oh yes, the magnificent anger! I remember it so well! The fuse behind acts of brilliance, defiance and prodigal endeavour. Feel good, Lex? Addictive, isn't it?"
"You're not in charge here, Lex."
"Wrong. Hey, what? What's going on here? You had your little talk with Clark, but he was your enemy."
"Past tense. He's been with me. On this journey."
"Without me, you have no reason to exist. You never think about yourself anymore. You need me."
"I don't need your selfishness and megalomania. And why are you shouting?"
"You don't know what you need anymore. You're starving me, neglecting me!"
"It's over, Lex. I deny you. You're pitiful, beneath my contempt. I turned my back on you. Goodbye"
"Shut up! I'll kill you!!! Arrgh!!!" The other Lex ran forward, but screamed as he fell into an infinite darkness, annihilated from existence.
It was that simple. Afterward, Lex Luthor That Was Now wondered if it had been some dream, but in that dark room, Lex Luthor That Was howled in loneliness and abandonment, but no-one would hear him or touch him or see him for the rest of eternity. Hell is sometimes fragments of the same person, abandoned lives and paths, left behind so that one can attain wholeness and authenticity in one's life.
