While compiling a list of western characters using the original Who's Who comics, I got a few ideas for some Weird Western Tales. I noticed that in the comics, and even in the stories here, Jonah Hex seems to be the character most likely to have the strange encounters. In the stories I have in mind, are there any other characters you would rather see make appearances in these tales besides Jonah?

Couldn't Strong Bow travel through time by entering some cave? Actually, I believe the One Life to Live soap also had some characters go back in time to the old west by entering a cave. I wonder if it was the same one?

How about revealing whatever happened to Don Cabarello? He might be dead by Bat's time or could his ghost walk in searach of some final justice?

how about a team up of Don Cabarello ad El Castiga, the original Whip?

so, would someone with only oral history to depend on recognize time travel for what it was? Maybe if you encountered someone with a name you recognized from a legend, but if you were in a pre-industrial society and traveled back in time a hundred years, you might not notice much difference in day-to-day life that would give away what actually happened...

I would love to see a story featuring the original El Diablo. Now that's an interesting character that never got much play but was a real "western horror" type character. In our continuity, Lazarus Lane actually lived (if you can call being paralyzed for over a century "living") until 1986, as seen in Csyphrett's stories.

I found copies of some of Robert E. Howard's weird western stories, so I think I might make try to make our Weird Western Tales a tad bit weirder.

I didn't know that Howard wrote any. Based on the use of a particular derogatory word, I get the idea that Howard might have had some rather racist views. Of course, he might have been writing the characters' views based on the time period of the story, but I personally don't think so.

I think he did portray some races in a negative light and yet could occasionally show such characters as noble or at least loyal to his hero like Conan's allies. I was surprised an early 1970s Spider-Man- the one revealing Flash Thompson's time at the hidden temple during his military service, included Spider-Man referring to Asian foes as "Fu Manchu". This was before he met Shang Chi so he apparently assumed Fu was fictional.

I will be establishing an Earth-1 version of Minstrel Maverick in an upcoming Weird Western Tales story. El Castigo is on the schedule as well as El Diablo. Cinnamon is another character I am plotting a story for.
