On this alternate Earth, the course of history diverged from the datum earlier than most. In this universe's early solar system history, the mesoplanet Theia never collided with that Earth, which meant that no Moon orbited that Earth, and without tidal perturbations, life never rose on that alternate world. Resultantly, this happened:
KRYPTONOPOLIS, AR 9999:
As his long-distance tachyon telescope resolved into an image of the exoplanet, third from its yellow dwarf primary, Jor-El sighed:
"What is it, my husband?"
"You can see for yourself, Lara. It is a terrestroid exoplanet, and it would be ideal for our son were it not for one variable. Its atmosphere does not contain any trace of amino acids consistent with organic molecules. Which is inexplicable, unless the absence of a large planetary satellite is factored into our observation algorithms. A pity, because other aspects such as the distance of its orbit from its primary, temperature variables, and atmospheric composition would have otherwise made it a perfect prospect."
"Which narrows our choices down even further, Jor-El. We are now down to three prospects where Kal-El might survive- Epsilon Indi III, Tau Ceti IV and Epsilon Eridani II. We need to choose which one exactly, so I can configure the navigation data into Kal-El's starship more precisely."
"Ah, Lara. How fortunate for our son that I married an astronaut..." Jor-El leant forward and gently kissed his wife on her forehead.
Several months later, when they watched Kal-El's lifeship soar into the heavens above the gathering maelstrom of Krypton's imminent destruction, they had resigned themselves. At least Tau Ceti IV had a humanoid planetary civilisation, even if, like Krypton's Rao, its sun was a stable crimson red dwarf. It meant that their son would never have the prodigious abilities ultra-solar radiation would bestow on him if he had been sent to planets of a yellow dwarf sun like those around Epsilon Indi and Epsilon Eridani. Kal-El's starship reached the requisite distance from its primary star to ignite its lightspeed capabilities and the Last Son of Krypton escaped the destruction of his immolated homeworld as it did in so many other alternate universes throughout the multiverse.
Fifteen years later, on lifeless Sol III, no-one was present as a tiny green spark flared into existence and then subsided, and a small, imperceptible flicker occurred. This universe would know a Kal-El from vanished Krypton, but no Superman. However, in different ways, this Kal-El's story would be as inspiring as that of his counterparts throughout the multiverse, even if necessity dictated that his life would be radically different.
