I am planning to ride 50 miles in a cancer fundraiser in July. The name of the event is the Prouty; it is held in Hanover, New Hampshire. This is my 9th year participating. My sister in law, Jo, lost her war with cancer 10 years ago; in 2021 my best riding buddy Alan also lost his war. And there are others who I ride for as well.
If you are interested in donating, my personal page is here: Dan Swanson's Prouty Page. Alternatively, if you go to my page, you will see that I ride with a team called the Flamingos. Everyone on the team has been impacted by cancer; at least one is a long term survivor, and at least one of the other members is currently in treatment.
Donations to the Prouty go towards several different causes: research, treatment, and patient care.
An alternative to donating to me would be to donate to my team - go to my page above and click on the link for the Flamingos.
In the interests of full disclosure - there is a wicked hill a few miles from the start line, and an even more wicked hill, called 'the Chieftan' a few miles from the finish line. I always have trouble with these hills, and I may end up walking my bike up one or both of them. I _have_ in the past managed them both, but I'm older now...
Also - if you live fairly nearby, and you are interested in riding, you could join the Flamingos and meet us there on the day of the event (or the day before...) On the 50 mile ride, there are usually 4 rest stops. It will take me about 5 hours on the bike, with rest stops, to complete this ride. There are also 20 mile, 35 mile, and 100 mile courses. And there are some Flamingos who chose to walk one of the walking courses instead.
If you are a strong rider, there are other riders on my team who are a bit faster, and others who are significantly faster. There is a great party afterward, with free food and a band!
Thanks for reading - and if you choose to donate, than you for your donation! If you want to join us on the day of the event to walk or ride, send me a private message!
