I decided to give the original Marvel Maid an origin... I haven't written it yet, but here is her backstory. Marvel Maid was a character in a comic book that Comics McCormick read in his own comic strip. So a fictional character from a fictional universe... perfect for Other Earth!
Marvel Maid Priscilla Carbon's parents were US diplomats and were living in Banana, the city on the African continent where the Congo River empties into the Atlantic Ocean, when she was born. A tribal shaman traveled over 2500 miles down the river to be present at her christening, and he presented her parents with 5 birth gifts. It was never explained how he knew of her birth or why he gave her these gifts. Her parents returned to the US and presented her these gifts when she was 21. She now lives in Indianapolis and works as a reporter |
Source of Powers:
* a necklace of Black Congo Pearls, which came from a bed of mussels cultivated by his tribe. These mussels only live in a very short section of the Congo River, nowhere else in the world, and only the mussels cultivated by the tribe produce black pearls, and only 1 in a thousand pearls was used to create the necklace. The necklace gives Marvel Maid the power of flight. She doesn't have to wear it, all she has to do is touch it. If she holds it and someone else holds it at the same time, that other person can fly as well. But she has to be touching it for it to work.
* earrings made from the shells of the only Black Congo mussel ever discovered which produced a pair of black pearls, each of which was larger than any others ever discovered. The earrings enhance her sensory capabilities.
* a pair of red gloves, the Gloves of Power, made from the skin of the Red Congo Python. Congo pythons only live in the marshes along the Congo River, and only Congo pythons fed mussels cultivated by this tribe are red. The Gloves of Power grant Marvel Maid super strength, and superhuman durability and work only for Marvel Maid
* a pair of high heeled strapped sandals, sort of a golden brown color, made from the leather of a Golden Congo Antelope. These Antelope only thrive in the marshes along the Congo River, and only those that drink water from the tribe's mussel farm turn this particular golden color. These Shoes of Speed grant her the power of super speed, and work only for Marvel Maid
* a black garment like a one-piece swimsuit, the Maillot of Health. This garment is woven from threads of Congo River Cotton, which only grows in marshes along the Congo, and only the Congo River Cotton grown in the waters of the mussel farm of this tribe has special powers.
When Priscilla Carbon removes her outer garments and reveals the Maillot of Health, her bodily proportions change significantly. Although Priscilla wears glasses as part of her disguise, she depends more on these bodily changes to conceal her identity than minor changes to her face. Very few people actually notice that Priscilla's face is also Marvel Maid's face, as their attention is usually elsewhere. As expected, the Maillot will only work for Marvel Maid.
The shaman presented his gifts and disappeared, with nary a word of explanation.
Priscilla works for the Indianapolis Daily Ledger as a crime reporter, and covers all the gritty crime scenes. She also writes human interest stories. She is consistently overdressed, for example, going on a first date for dinner in a diner, wearing an evening gown and faux fur wrap. She is always looking for a story, and most people think she is nosy.
