Apparently, Torchy here was an independent, resourceful, wisecracking and versatile journalist and her character inspired the consequent development of Superman's Lois. Which does raise some interesting questions about what might happen if Torchy were to be revived as a character... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torchy_Blane

Yeah, I've heard that. I also heard that Torchy Blane's character was originally a man in the source material for those movies.

Some (or all, not sure) of those Torchy Blane movies were adapted from the MacBride and Kennedy stories by detective novelist Frederick Nebel.

I'd long assumed that Rosalind Russell in His Girl Friday was another inspiration for Lois Lane, but that movie was released in 1940, so at least a couple years too late.

I always wondered if the actress who played Torchy in a 1938 movie-Torchy in Panama -Lola Lane- was an influence on the selection of the name Lois Lane. Lola's sister Priscilla was more famous for roles in things like Arsenic and Old Lace and Hitchcock's Saboteur.

Wikipedia says so, Lib...
"Influence
Comic book writer and Superman co-creator Jerry Siegel credit Glenda Farrell's portrayal of Torchy Blane as the inspiration for the DC Comics reporter Lois Lane and the name of actress Lola Lane for Lois' name.[4] Joanne Siegel, the wife of Jerry Siegel and the original model for Lois Lane, also cited Farrell's portrayal of Torchy as Siegel's inspiration for Lois.[5]"

Say, Torchy Todd would be a good teamup with Susan Kent Barr and Carol Clews, the way Libby writes them
