Sure is hard trying to conform Superboy stories to some kind of semi-realistic continuity. As an example, the Sky Girl and Gravity Girl stories are pretty much identical, but they can't both exist in the same time line - since everyone in the Gravity Girl story would remember the events of the Sky Girl story.
But I'm working on a followup to Sky Girl (the one that came first) and I wonder how her appearance and disappearance were explained? The appearance of a masked, costumed girl with powers seemingly equivalent to those of Superboy.. where did she come from? Why did she leave? Certainly Superboy would be asked those questions by both his parents and cops and reporters and just about anyone. Was she from Krypton? Maybe she was Superboy's sister? Was she in hiding all those years, or did she just arrive?
But in the next issue, there are no references to her, just like those momentous events last month never happened!

All that stuff could’ve happened off panel

I was frustrated by the Superman Jr story in much the same way. The end of the story leaves Junior an ordinary non-powered kid on a street with no parents to take care of him as Superman flies away after being the only father he’s ever known. So I had to fill in the gaps.

There is a lot of stuff like that, that I didn't notice when I was a kid. I guess it's good because it gives us something to write about. But it sure doesn't make the heroes look heroic!
